11th July 2007 - Crawley NewsPolice get praise for community action POUND Hill police officers have been praised for cracking down on crime in the neighbourhood. Residents packed St Barnabas Church to meet their local policing team and thank them for their recent achievements. A community police meeting was held last Thursday afternoon to give residents the chance to chat to local officers. Parish priest Craig Barber said: "The local policing team has achieved so much in such a short amount of time. "These meetings give hundreds of residents the opportunity to engage with the police in a way not known since years ago." PC Darren Taylor added: "Once again it was great to see so many residents popping in and having a chat with us. These meetings are so important because local people tell us about local issues and give us information."

7th March 2007 - Crawley NewsPolice give advice on safer homes by Adrian Pearson CRIME prevention advice was handed out during a friendly neighbourhood chat with local bobbies. Police officers end PCSOs turned up to meet and greet residents in Pound Hill at St Barnabas Church on Thursday. Crime prevention officer Neville Wren was one of those offering safer homes advice to families. He said: "We're here to help secure homes and offer help to make people feel safer. "A lot of crime is certainly opportunist and items like door chains are essential in helping to stop this." The police officer had a range of products used in crime prevention, including panic alarms and ultra-violet identity pens, all of which are available from Neighbourhood Watch groups. One of the more unusual tips involved camera film tubs. "We ask elderly or vulnerable people who may have serious medical conditions to store their personal details on a form and place it into these canisters with an emergency sticker on it. "The canister is placed in the fridge and another sticker is put on the fridge. "If anything should happen and the emergency services have to force entry to your home this is where they can find life-saving information. "We use the fridge because this is one of the few places that will survive a fire." PC Darren Taylor said the event was an important chance for police officers to talk to families in Pound Hill. He said: "These events bring the community and the police together and that's very important to us. "It gives the residents in Pound Hill a chance to see their local beat officers who they may not normally see and lets them voice any concerns they may have. "And of course it's a chance for neighbours to meet up as well." For more information on crime prevention, or to contact your local PCSO, call Crawley Police on 0845 60 70 999.

CRAWLEY POLICE STATION
Local Policing In Crawley Is Changing! Now more than ever we're dedicated to getting local policing working with and within the community. The responsibility for neighbourhood policing is undertaken by the newly appointed Neighbourhood Specialist Team (NST), comprising Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs) and Police Constables (PCs). These officers have responsibility for specific areas of Crawley and it is envisaged that they will spend the majority of their time dealing with issues within their own area. The day to day work of the NST is overseen by two Sergeants and an Inspector but the NST officers have a wide degree of latitude in deciding how to utilise their time. It's still early days for the NST and we have a great deal of work to do to ensure that we `get it right'. Our current priority is to become more visible and accessible to the community we serve, in order that we can build up a good knowledge of local issues. One by one we are starting to tackle the issues that are of greatest concern to the community and over time, we hope to make a significant impact on improving the quality of life in our town. If youve been handed this letter, it's because you've made a comment to, or had a conversation with, one of my officers. I'm interested to know whether you feel we are achieving our first goal of being more visible and accessible within your area. If you have any comments, good or bad, I'd be grateful for your feedback. A quick note is all that is required, please don't feel you have to write a formal letter. Thank you for your time and support. David Fowler - Sgt CF680 |
