26th June 2013 – Crawley News

A NEW council officer has been hired to promote Worth Park in Pound Hill.

Crawley Borough Council has appointed Edwina Livesey as a “project participation  officer”.

She is looking for volunteers willing to help with the revamp of the park, which is in the process of being transformed back to how it looked in Victorian times to the tune of £3.4 million.

She will also work with schools and community groups to encourage use of the park’s facilities.

Ms Livesey said: “We’re working hard to transform the park back to a place everyone can enjoy

“Education will play a big part in my role, encouraging children to learn about their Victorian ancestors and how they would have enjoyed using the park.”

Certain trees have been replaced with plants of the Victorian era and the park’s fountain is being restored. A Victorian festival and family workshops are being planned.

One of the first projects will be to encourage more people to play croquet on Worth Park’s full-size lawn.
